Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) - CCSSE provides community and technical colleges with assessment tools appropriate to their missions and the characteristics of their diverse student populations. This Web site is home to the Community College Student Report, which asks students about their college experiences — how they spend their time; what they feel they have gained from their classes; how they assess their relationships and interactions with faculty, counselors and peers; what kinds of work they are challenged to do; and how the college supports their learning....

National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) - Focusing on outcomes, this survey is designed to provide information on what students gain from postsecondary education. By collecting information from more than 100,000 undergraduate students on an annual basis, NSSE tries to identify institutional “best practices” and improve student learning at all levels. ...

The National Forum on College-Level Learning - This Pew-sponsored pilot study attempts to answer the question, “What information about college-level learning do state policymakers need and how can it be obtained?” Five states (Illinois, Kentucky, Nevada, Oklahoma and South Carolina) will collect information on college-level learning, including college exit exams, national assessments of adult literacy, surveys of students and alumni, and tests of general intellectual skills given to a representative sample of students. The results will make it possible to assess both the intellectual capital available to these states and the contributions that their colleges and universities (two- and four-year, public and private) collectively make to it....

The National Information Center for Higher Education Policymaking and Analysis - This Web site provides a wealth of information on state higher education systems. Data are available on such topics as postsecondary enrollment, financial aid and student retention, persistence and graduation. Users can retrieve data from the site to generate their own custom U.S. and state color-coded maps. ...

National Center on Public Policy and Higher Education - As an independent, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, this center prepares action-oriented analyses of pressing policy issues facing the states and the nation regarding opportunity and achievement in higher education, including two- and four-year, public and private, for-profit and nonprofit institutions. This site features multiple issues related to higher education, including finance and funding. Of particular interest is the “National Center Reports” section that covers topics ranging from recession, state-level funding of higher education and college affordability....
