The Jed Foundation - This foundation raises public awareness on the issue of college-student suicide and encourages quality mental health services be provided to postsecondary students. Some of their programs include the Pilot Suicide Prevention Program aimed at developing a research-based suicide prevention program to implement on college campuses nationwide; and the National College Suicide Registry, which seeks to establish accurate information on the number of attempted and completed suicides on college campuses. American Association of Suicidology (AAS) - Membership to this association includes mental health and public health professionals, researchers, suicide prevention and crisis intervention centers, school districts, crisis center volunteers, survivors of suicide and a variety of lay persons. AAS provides a great deal of information and networking opportunities on its Web site, including AAS research publications, an online bookstore, an extensive list of links of interest, prevention resources and more. Materials address youth suicide prevention as well as suicide prevention among the general population....

Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC) - This site provides state, national and international news on suicide prevention efforts across the lifespan, abstracts of recently published research (often for research not available free of charge to the general public), an online library, and state coalition contact information. SPRC is collaborating with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to conduct quality and utility reviews of suicide prevention programs....

The Jason Foundation, Inc. - The Jason Foundation, Inc. was founded in 1997 and is focused on educating young people, parents, teachers and others who work with young people about youth suicide. They provide the Promise for Tomorrow school curriculum for grades 7 through 12, inservice workshops for educators, parent seminars and student seminars. The organization also provides a brochure on the C.A.R.L. line, an innovative program in youth suicide prevention. It is a 24-hour/seven-day telephone “Resource Line” staffed by trained clinical specialists for anyone in need of information regarding suicidal ideation in youth. They are capable of handling crisis calls, but primarily operate to provide important information to parents, teachers and other youth workers to help them identify and assist youth who are possibly considering suicide. C.A.R.L. is a confidential and free service....

Yellow Ribbon International - This organization, founded by the parents of a youth who committed suicide in 1994, provides workshops addressing both community organization and suicide prevention gatekeeper training. Yellow Ribbon, whose suicide prevention program is based on "best practices" research in suicide prevention, is currently the subject of an evaluation by Indiana University-South Bend. Chapters are located in most states, Australia, New Zealand and Canada....
