Every year, State of the State addresses offer time for new and incumbent governors to outline policy priorities and celebrate state accomplishments. Since 2005, we’ve tracked, analyzed and identified education policy trends in governors’ State of the State addresses to help you understand trending education issues across states.
This year’s Special Report includes 42 addresses that highlight a continued focus on expanding workforce development, increasing funding investments and building a strong teacher workforce.
The full report highlights the top six trends we found across state education-related proposals and features state examples of each. The trends are:
- Workforce development and career and technical education.
- K-12 funding.
- Teacher workforce.
- Early care and education.
- Academic achievement and literacy.
- Physical and mental health.
Use our interactive map to find complete summaries of education policy priorities outlined in each governor's State of the State address.
This report is a collaboration with the National Governors Association. We’re grateful for this partnership.
